India's crude soybean oil imports surged to 19.11 lakh tonnes between November 2024 and March 2025, a twofold increase. Increased imports from Argentina and Russia offset a decline in palm oil imports. The rise is attributed to cheaper soybean oil in global markets and the shift in HoReCa sectors to cost-effective cooking oils due to expensive palm oil, driven by biodiesel production.
