India's central government has revoked the 'no-detention policy' for classes 5 and 8 in its schools. Students failing year-end exams will be held back. This follows a 2019 amendment to the Right to Education Act. Over 3,000 central government schools are affected, while 16 states and 2 UTs already implemented similar changes.
